The Mechanical Engineering Department was established in the year 1997 with a modest intake of 40. The intake is increased from 40 to 60 in 1998, 60 to 90 in 2001 and 90 to 120 in 2011. The current intake is 30 in B.Tech and 30 in Diploma. The department has also offered a PG program-M.Tech in Thermal Engineering from 2011 to 2017. Former NIT, and JNTU Professors Dr. P. G. Shastry, Dr. C. B. Krishna Murthy, Prof. D. S. Shastry, Dr. CM Vara Prasad, Dr. T. Annapurneshwar Rao, Dr. S Murali have sown the seeds and were instrumental in developing Mechanical Engineering Department.
The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty with various specializations. The department is equipped with excellent laboratories and infrastructure to cater to the needs of B.Tech and Diploma students. It possess CNC lathe, CNC Milling Machine, Turret Lathe, Plasma Welding /Cutting machines, Wind Tunnel to name few. The department has produced a Gold Medalist Mr.K. Shekar Reddy in the year 2005 for securing highest marks among all JNTUH Affiliated Engineering College Students.
