MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

About the department :

The Mechanical Engineering Department was established in the year 1997 with a modest intake of 40. The intake is increased from 40 to 60 in 1998, 60 to 90 in 2001 and 90 to 120 in 2011. The current intake is 30 in B.Tech and 30 in Diploma. The department has also offered a PG program-M.Tech in Thermal Engineering from 2011 to 2017. Former NIT, and JNTU Professors Dr. P. G. Shastry, Dr. C. B. Krishna Murthy, Prof. D. S. Shastry, Dr. CM Vara Prasad, Dr. T. Annapurneshwar Rao, Dr. S Murali have sown the seeds and were instrumental in developing Mechanical Engineering Department.

The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty with various specializations. The department is equipped with excellent laboratories and infrastructure to cater to the needs of B.Tech and Diploma students. It possess CNC lathe, CNC Milling Machine, Turret Lathe, Plasma Welding /Cutting machines, Wind Tunnel to name few. The department has produced a Gold Medalist Mr.K. Shekar Reddy in the year 2005 for securing highest marks among all JNTUH Affiliated Engineering College Students.

The Mechanical Dept. has senior and experienced faculty to teach subjects from I Year to Final year, who are master (M.Tech.) in various specializations like Thermal, Production, Machine Design, etc.The department is equipped with excellent laboratories for Diploma, B.Tech. and M.Tech courses listed below:

The department is equipped with CNC Lathe, CNC Milling, Turret Lathe, Water Plasma Welding and Cutting, Wind Flow Tunnel (which is sanctioned from AICTE’s MODRAB scheme) to facilitate research and development activities in the related areas.The department also conducts workshops, seminars regularly for student and faculty, to improve personality development, soft skills, training skills, interview skills, etc.The department has undergone MOU with SAP through T.A.S.K in Material Management module, which will aid students for better placements after completing their graduation.




Program Outcomes

The students of undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering will have

PO-1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO-2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
PO-3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO-4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO-5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
PO-6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
PO-7: Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
PO-8:Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
PO-9: Individual and teamwork: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
