Jayaprakash Narayan (1902-1979), called Lok Nayak, was a renowned Indian freedom fighter, social reformer and defender of democracy. Born in Bihar, he championed justice, equality and local governance, remaining closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi. In the 1970s, during challenges to India's democracy, JP mobilized millions with his "Total Revolution" especially the youth, striving hard for peaceful political, social, and economic changes.
His leadership during the Emergency (1975-77) was crucial in protecting India's democratic values. Beyond politics, he worked for the poor and marginalized. For his integrity and dedication, he received the Bharat Ratna posthumously. JP's legacy continues to inspire commitment to democracy and social justice.
